Charleston forced six Wesleyan turnovers on their way to a 28-17 victory. The loss drops the Bobcats to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Adam Neugebauer completed 31-of-49 passes for 375 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted five times. Jon Meadows caught six passes for 100 yards and one score. T.J. Benners (pictured) added six receptions for 116 yards. Jesse Robertson led the way defensively with 10 tackles.
UC's Jordan Roberts rushed for 160 yards on 28 carries and reached pay dirt three times. Maurice Leak completed 7-of-25 passes for 128 yards, and added 46 yards with one touchdown on the ground. Aaron Dunlap recorded 10 tackles for UC. Matt Kelly registered three sacks and Hassan Coleman tallied two interceptions.
West Virginia Wesleyan took advantage of an excellent return on the opening kick that set up the Bobcats deep in Golden Eagle territory. Neugebauer found Meadows from 25 yards out on the first play from scrimmage to give the Bobcats an early 7-0 lead. UC answered with Leak breaking through from 12 yards out to knot the game at 7-7.
In the second quarter, Roberts put the Golden Eagles ahead with a sprint in from 10 yards out to make the score 14-7. Roberts again reached pay dirt, this time from 21 yards out to extend the lead to 21-7. The Bobcats got a Phillip Warner field goal just before halftime to trim the deficit to 21-10 at the break.
Keith Dickens plunged in from five yards out late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 21-17. Roberts sealed the Golden Eagle victory with a 10 yard touchdown jolt late in the fourth to set the final margin at 28-17.
The Bobcats wrap up the regular season at Concord next Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be for the WVIAC Championship.
