Wesleyan Rolls Past West Liberty, 43-8

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Wesleyan defense forced six West Liberty turnovers, and limited the Toppers to 151 yards of offense on their way to a 43-8 victory on Saturday afternoon at Ross Field.

Adam Neugebauer tallied five touchdowns on 38-of-54 passing with 358 yards and a pair of interceptions. Jon Meadows grabbed 11 passes for 166 yards with two touchdowns. John Maddox led the way on defense with eight tackles including a sack and a forced fumble.

West Liberty's L.D. Crow was 17-of-36 with 99 yards and one interception. Hakeem Cartwright caught four passes for 58 yards with one touchdown.

The Bobcats racked up 459 yards of offense on the day. The game was marred by penalties with a combined 27 penalties for 228 yards.


The Bobcats got on the board with the first of Phillip Warner's three field goals in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. Later in the quarter Neugebauer found Keith Dickens from 10 yards out to extend the advantage to 9-0. The Bobcat offense continued to roll as Neugebauer hooked up with Meadows to make the score 16-0. Neugebauer again found Meadows on the final play of the first quarter to extend the lead to 23-0. Wesleyan added another Warner field goal in the second quarter to go to the locker room with a 26-0 lead at the end of the half.

The Hilltoppers got on the board in the third quarter when a punt snap went through the endzone for a safety to make the score 26-2. Following a Hilltopper turnover, Neugebauer connected with Christian Smith to extend the advantage to 33-2. Neugebauer's last touchdown strike of the day went to Stephen Campbell capping an eight play drive. WL's Chris Kiedaisch found Cartwright for a 53 yard touchdown in the fourth to make it 40-8. Warner added the final points of the game with a 25-yard field goal to set the final tally at 43-8.

The Bobcats travel to Seton Hill next week, kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Wesleyan returns to Ross Field on October 8, against Shepherd.
