Lady Bobcats Push Past the Rock in Overtime

Box Score

The women's soccer team was in action this afternoon on the road, playing at Slippery Rock University. After ending regular time with a score of 1-1 and playing 9 minutes of overtime Wesleyan grabbed the win with a score of 2-1.

The first half of the game was scoreless and the first goal did not come until 38 minutes into the second half when the Slippery Rock goalie came out of the goal and attempted to clear the ball out of Rock territory. The ball ended up hitting Rachel Ritchey's shin guard and deflecting 25 yards back into the empty net, putting Wesleyan on the board 1-0.

The Rock managed to tie the game with less than two minutes to play in regular time when their player swung a cross into the box and after deflecting off a Bobcat defender the ball went in the net.

Ending the game nine minutes into overtime was junior, Aliesha Rees (pictured), after a volley by Ritchey deflected off the post and back to her. This is the All-Region defender's first goal of the 2011 season.

Slippery Rock outshot Wesleyan, 20-10.

Winning the game in the goal for the Bobcats was senior, Caroline Lalley. Lalley tallied 6 saves.

Wesleyan is next in action this coming Saturday, September 10, on their home field. The game is against Malone University and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
