Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan made 7-of-8 attempts at the charity stripe in the final two minutes to come away with a 78-73 win over upset-minded Bluefield State on Tuesday.
Lydia Bridenbaugh and Jamie Kaufman each recorded double-doubles for the Lady Bobcats. Bridenbaugh finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Kaufman registered 22 points and 12 rebounds. Kaufman also dished out a game-high five assists.
Charlene Diggs (28), Dragana Tomic (11) and Tasia Nolan (10) all tallied double figures for Bluefield State.
Wesleyan dominated the glass by a 50-32 margin. The Lady Bobcats shot 48 percent from the field for the game while limiting the Lady Blues to 36 percent. WVWC overcame 26 turnovers to pick up the win.
The first 20 minutes were back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than seven; Wesleyan held a 37-33 lead at the break.
The Lady Bobcats seemed to put the game away with a 12-3 run midway through the second half to extend their advantage to 59-47, Kaufman contributed six of the points. The Lady Blues answered with a 16-4 jolt to knot the game at 63-63 with six minutes to play, Tomic and Diggs each notched six points on the run. Wesleyan scored the next four points and would not look back as Bridenbaugh (6-of-6) and Kaufman (1-of-2) combined to go 7-of-8 at the free throw line to seal the 78-73 victory.
The Lady Bobcats move to 9-4 overall, and 6-2 in league play. Wesleyan travels to West Liberty on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
