BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Chris Dewberry drained back-to-back threes in the final minute to help Wesleyan pick up a 67-66 win over California (Pa.) on Saturday night.
T.J. Thompson paced the Bobcats with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including nailing 2-of-3 shots from beyond the arc. Noah Cottrill netted 15 points, while Dewberry and Kelsey Williams each finished with 11. Raymond Warren dished out a game-high six assists.
Quentin Harding (16), Mitchell Weedon (12) and Keith Lowe (10) all finished in double figures for the Vulcans.
Cal opened up a 16-9 lead with an 8-0 run in the first half. The run was sparked by back-to-back threes from Art Cook and Tynell Fortune. The Vulcans went to the locker room holding a 36-28 advantage.
The Bobcats used a 13-4 surge to cut the deficit to one at 53-52 in the second half. Cottrill scored nine of the 13 points, including draining a pair of threes. Harding put Cal in front 64-61 with a three from the right wing. Dewberry answered with a three from the corner, knotting the game at 64-64. Following a pair of Vulcan free throws, Ray Warren brought the ball down the floor and found Dewberry again from the corner, putting Wesleyan in front 67-66. After a pair of timeouts, the Vulcans turned the ball over on their final possession and Wesleyan came away victorious, 67-66.
Wesleyan hosts arch-rival Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
