BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Darrell Byrd touched the ball just four times, but totaled 152 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Charleston to a 28-23 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.

Nate Montana completed 31-of-53 passes for 287 yards with a pair of touchdowns, but was picked off twice. Malcolm Yowk rushed for 19 yards on nine carries. Chase Blackwell pulled down eight passes for 80 and reached pay dirt once.

Golden Eagles' quarterback, John Knox, finished 11-of-21 with 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Jordan Roberts was limited to 61 yards on 21 carries, but did find the end zone once. Byrd toted the ball three times for 77 yards, scoring twice, and led UC in receiving with 75 yards on one catch.

Wesleyan grabbed an early 3-0 lead with a 22 yard field goal by Kasper Bernild. Byrd sprinted in from 43 yards away on the ensuing Golden Eagle possession. Roberts plunged in from a yard out to make the score 14-3 at the half. The score was set up by a 75 yard reception by Byrd.

Jake Leninsky picked off Knox and Montana took advantage, connecting with Nyquan McGirt early in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 14-10. Knox pushed the lead back to 21-10 when he located Shaq Williams from 15 yards out. Montana dove in from a yard out, but the two point attempt failed, and left the score 21-16. Byrd jolted in from 32 yards away to push the lead to 28-16. Montana found Blackwell late in the fourth, but couldn't recover the ensuing kickoff as Charleston held on for the 28-23 win.

Wesleyan closes out the 2012 season next Saturday as they host Concord at 1 p.m.
