BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team hit 53.8 percent (14-of-26) of its shots from beyond the arc en route to an 86-72 win over Concord on Saturday evening.
Kelsey Williams registered his third straight double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Noah Cottrill netted 17 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots from three, while Chris Dewberry finished with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Ray Warren tallied a double-double (10 points, 10 assists) and pulled down six rebounds.
The Mountain Lions were paced by Gentry Shresbury's 17 points. Damien Tunstalle notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas Brown and Eric Bailey went for 13 points apiece.
Wesleyan made 31-of-54 shots (57.4 percent) from the field for the game, while limiting the Mountain Lions to just 26-of-68 (38.2 percent) from the field. Concord held a 41-30 advantage on the glass for the contest and turned 20 offensive rebounds into 22 second chance points.
The Bobcats raced to an 11-3 lead to open the game. Cottrill capped the run with a deep three from the top of the key. Concord answered with an 8-0 jolt to knot the game at 11-11, four of the eight points were second chance baskets. Concord grabbed its only lead of the game at 22-20, but Wesleyan responded with a 17-7 surge to close the half and take a 37-29 lead to the locker room. The run was spurred by a dunk from Williams—assisted by Soren Dossing—that send the crowd into a frenzy.
Concord opened the second half with an 11-6 jolt to cut the lead to two at 42-40. The Bobcats buried three on each of their next six possessions, part of a 19-4 blitz that opened up a 61-44 lead, helping the Bobcats secure the 86-72 victory. The run included a four point play by Dossing.
The Bobcats step out of conference play on Friday as they face Virginia State in the first round of the Porreco Cup at Gannon University.
