ELKINS, W.Va. – D'Quan Lynch's tip-in at the buzzer snapped Wesleyan's nine game win streak, and gave the Senators a hard fought 74-72 overtime victory on Saturday.
Raymont McElroy (30), Kelsey Williams (18) and Reggie Chambers (17) all registerd double figures for the Bobcats.
Malik Tinsley led the Senators with 26 points. Ian Pinckney tallied a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Lynch added 11 points.
Davis & Elkins dominated on the glass by a 44-31 margin. The Senators pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and turned them into 14 second chance points.
The Bobcats raced out to an 11-2 lead to open the contest, the fast start was ignited by a three from Chambers. D&E quickly regained its composure going on a 12-5 sprint to trim the deficit to 16-14. Wesleyan countered with a second 11-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at 27-16; Chambers netted seven of the 11 points during the run. The Senators answered with a 10-2 run capped by a dunk from Paolo Ivis, to cut the lead to 29-26. The Bobcats went to the break up 35-29.
D&E opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take their first lead of the contest at 41-38, Lynch put the Senators ahead with a three during the run. The lead would change hands on nine occasions the rest of the half, but 40 minutes would not be enough to determine a winner as the game would head for overtime tied at 64-64.
In the extra session, the Senators were able to snatch a 72-67 lead. McElroy would hit a pair of free throws followed by a three to knot the game at 72-72, setting the stage for the dramatic conclusion. P.J. Turner drove to the basket, laid the ball up, it wouldn't go; but Lynch was there for the rebound and tip-in as the buzzer sounded, giving the Senators the 74-72 win.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 17-7 and 13-7 in league play. Wesleyan will look to get back on track at home against Pitt.-Johnstown at 7:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Bobcats.
