Bobcats Edge FSU, 70-67

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan used a key 17-2 second half run to defeat Fairmont State 70-67 on Saturday afternoon.

Reggie Chambers (27), Raymont McElroy (21) and Mike Washington (12) scored in double figures for Wesleyan.

Isaac Thornton (21), Melvin Rhodes (18) and Jay Burke (10) tallied double figures for the Falcons.

Fairmont State jumped out to a 17-10 lead; Melvin Rhodes ignited the run with a pair of bombs from beyond the arc. Wesleyan answered with a 10-3 jolt to knot the game at 20-20; McElroy scored all 10 points for the Bobcats. FSU scored the next six points and would go to the break holding a 33-27 lead.

Wesleyan went on a 17-2 run around the midway point of the second half to go in front 54-46; Chambers contributed nine of the 17 points. The Falcons would cut the lead to four with one minute to play, but Wesleyan was able to come away with the 70-67 win.

The Bobcats improve to 19-7 on the year and 15-7 in WVIAC play. Wesleyan returns home to open the first round of the WVIAC tournament on Tuesday evening at 7:30.
