Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Glenville State comes to Buckhannon on Thursday night for a showdown with the Bobcats.
On the women's side, the top two teams in the league square off. The Lady Bobcats currently sit atop the conference standings while the Lady Pioneers sit a close second.
The Lady Bobcats enter Thursday's meeting having won six of their last seven games. Wesleyan is 14-5 on the year and 11-3 in conference play. WVWC downed Ohio Valley on Saturday by an 80-59 margin. Lydia Bridenbaugh leads the Bobcats, averaging 21.8 points per game (fifth in D-II). Jamie Kaufman adds 19.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest.
Glenville State looks to get back on the winning track after seeing its six game win streak snapped by Seton Hill on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers dropped the game by a 98-73 margin. GSC is 14-5 on the year and 12-3 in WVIAC play. Four of Glenville's five losses this season have come on the road (6-4).
The Lady Pioneers will go 12 deep on the bench and do not have a player averaging more than 25 minutes per contest. Six GSC players average double figures, led by Tenisha Wilson's 18.9 points per game. Mishae Miles regularly pulls down a double-double with 14.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest. Danielle Woodmore (12.6), Ginny Petties (11.3), Beth Deren (11.1) and Kenyell Goodson (10.1) are all usually in double figures for GSC.
Glenville State leads the nation in scoring offense, averaging 96.2 points per game. GSC is third in the country in turnover margin at +8.26 and averages a league-best 24 offensive rebounds per contest. On the flip-side, the Lady Pioneers average 11.5 made threes per contest (second in D-II). Glenville surrenders 83.4 points per game, which is 277-out-of-278 women's basketball programs in the country.
The Bobcat men are rolling, winning five in a row and seven of their last eight. Wesleyan is currently 13-6 on the year and 9-6 in league play. WVWC is coming off a 93-73 win over Ohio Valley. Raymont McElroy pumped in 48 points in the win and went on to earn WVIAC Player of the Week honors. Kelsey Williams averages a double-double with 18.9 points and 10 rebounds. McElroy (18.7) and Reggie Chambers (12.9) average double figures for the Bobcats.
GSC is looking to get back track after a 74-51 defeat at the hands of Seton Hill. The Pioneers are 6-13 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Glenville has struggled on the road this season compiling just a 2-9 record. Kevin Gray (17.2) and Jamal Morris (12.1) average double figures for the Pioneers.
Admission to Thursday's contest is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-12, and children under six are free. Tip-off for the women's game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30.
