BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan used a pair of dominant pitching efforts to sweep Concord on Saturday afternoon at Hank Ellis Field. The Bobcats took game one, 7-1 and rolled to a 13-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, Corey Flickinger doubled on the first pitch of the Wesleyan first and later scored on an RBI groundout by Gene Franks to take a 1-0 lead. J.R. Tenney picked up an RBI in the top of the second on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Tom Brunswick followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0. Flickinger and Ryan Lewicki each added sacrifice flies as WVWC held a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Bobcats added a run on an error in the fourth to go ahead 6-0. Concord broke through in the sixth with an RBI single to make it 6-1. Flickinger belted a home run to left center after a nine-pitch battle to set the final margin at 7-1.
Aaron Adams tossed the complete game, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, Brunswick got Wesleyan on the board with an RBI single in the second. Flickinger followed with a two-RBI single and Franks grounded out for an RBI to put Wesleyan on top 4-0. Mark Darlington and Spencer Webley picked up RBI singles in the fourth. Concord scored its first run on a wild pitch and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make the score 6-2. Lewicki notched an RBI double in the fifth to push the lead to 7-2. Edwards added a run in the sixth with an RBI single. Lewicki and Franks each drove home two in the inning. Darlington drove in the game's final run with a double as the Bobcats claimed the 13-2 victory.
Warren Hammel went six innings, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking two. Cassey Defibaugh hurled a perfect seventh inning to shut the door.
The Bobcats and Mountain Lions wrap-up there weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
