BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Concord's Josh Wenger belted two home runs and drove in five to lead the Mountain Lions past Wesleyan, 9-6 on Sunday afternoon.
Concord scored three runs in the first on the strength of a three-run home run by Wenger. Wesleyan got on the board in the second with an RBI double from Mitch Tomlinson. Tom Brunswick drove Tomlinson home with a single to trim the deficit to 3-2 after two innings. CU pushed across a run in the fourth with an RBI double. Wenger's second big fly of the game in the fifth, this time of the two-run variety, pushed the CU advantage to 6-2. Concord notched a pair of RBI singles and scored on a wild pitch in the inning to lead 9-2. The Bobcats cut into the Mountain Lion lead with a pair of two-RBI singles from Ryan Lewicki and J.R. Tenney to make the score 9-6.
Andrew Ornes got the start (0-3), working four plus innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk. Cassey Defibaugh tossed one-third of an inning, surrendering three runs on three hits while walking three. Nick Benges worked 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit. Chris Stein pitched one inning, recording one walk.
Wesleyan is now 9-11 on the year and 4-3 in WVIAC play. The Bobcats continue their homestand on Wednesday afternoon in a double header against Alderson-Broaddus. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
