Lady Bobcats Advance to WVIAC Championship

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan used a 20-1 first half run to down Shepherd, 74-47 and advance to the WVIAC Championship game.

Lydia Bridenbaugh tallied a game-high 25 points. Jamie Kaufman finished with her 11th double-double of the year (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Daria Abros'kina chipped in with 12.

West Virginia Wesleyan opened up a 18-8 lead in the first half; Kaufman tallied eight of the 17 points. The Rams cut the deficit to five at 18-13, before the Lady Bobcats reeled off 20 of the game's next 21 points to push their advantage to 38-14; Bridenbaugh scored eight points during the run. WVWC would go to the break holding a 43-21 lead.

The Lady Bobcats hit on 13-of-15 attempts at the free throw line in the first half, while the Rams made just 4-of-11. Shepherd made just 8-of-35 attempts from the field in the first 20 minutes, after shooting over 68 percent in the second half of its quarterfinal win against Fairmont State. Shepherd's starters combined for just five points in the half.

Wesleyan would extend the lead to as many as 30 on its way to the 74-47 win.

The Lady Bobcats are now 23-6 overall and advance to play the winner between Glenville State and Concord in the WVIAC Championship game tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
