Wesleyan Downs Seton Hill in Twin Ball

SETON HILL, Pa. -- West Virginia Wesleyan picked up a pair of victories over Seton Hill on Monday. The Bobcats took game one, 8-5 and followed it up with a 12-2 win in game two.

In game one, Seton Hill scored first in the bottom of the second on a Wesleyan error to grab a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats tied the game with a sacrifice fly from Jacqui Omichinski in the fourth. Kaitlyn Carey broke the tie two batters later with a two-run homer to put WVWC in front 3-1. Seton Hill cut the lead to one with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Paige Cummings pushed the lead back to 4-2 with a sacrifice fly in fifth. The Griffins would again cut the lead to one with an RBI single in the bottom half, making the score 4-3. Carey pushed across a run with an RBI double in the sixth to give the Bobcats a 5-3 advantage. SHU plated a pair of runs on a single in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. Megan Malenstyn broke the tie with an RBI single in the seventh, and Carey added insurance with a two-RBI single as the Bobcats went on to the 8-5 win.  

Omichinski (5-2) tossed the complete game, giving up five runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out six and walking one.

In game two, the Wesleyan offense picked up right where it left off, as Malenstyn drove home two in the first with a double. Seton Hill cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a WVWC error. Omichinski?s double in the third extended the lead to 3-1. Cummings belted a three-run blast in the forth to push the lead to 6-1. Kelli McCullough added a two-RBI single in the fifth. Seton Hill scored one run in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-2. Cummings? second home run of the game made the score 10-2. Tyler Welch drove in a run with a groundout and McCullough plated the game?s final run setting the 12-2 margin.   

Carey (5-3) went the distance, allowing two unearned runs, on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Wesleyan is now 18-8 overall and 3-1 in WVIAC play. The Bobcats travel to Concord on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
