AUBURNDALE, Fla. – West Virginia Wesleyan picked up a pair of wins over Notre Dame College on Monday. The Bobcats won game one by a 5-0 score and rolled to a 14-4 win in game two.
J.R. Tenney got the Bobcats on the board in the second with an RBI triple to make it 1-0. A sacrifice fly by Mark Darlington and an RBI single by Aaron Wiegel extended the Wesleyan lead 3-0 after three innings. Tom Brunswick registered an RBI double in the fourth and would later score on a Falcon error to make it 5-0.
Aaron Adams earned the win, pitching five scoreless innings, scattering three hits with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks. Dan Marcine worked the final two innings without allowing a hit while striking out one and walking one.
In game two, Wiegel got things started with a two RBI double in the first to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead. NDC got one back in the second, making the score 2-1. Corey Flickinger added an RBI single and Ryan Lewicki registered an RBI double in the second to make the score 4-1. NDC scored a pair of runs on a double in the third to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Falcons added another run in the fourth to knot the game at 4-4. Gene Franks added a bases-clearing double and Mitch Tomlinson added an RBI groundout to put WVWC back in front 8-4. The Wesleyan offense would continue to roll in the fifth with Franks' RBI single and an RBI double by Darlington to make the tally 11-4. Lewicki added an RBI and Franks picked up two more in the sixth to set the final 14-4 margin.
Warren Hammel picked up the win, tossing four innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Chris Stein picked up his second save of the season, hurling three scoreless innings to allow just a pair of hits while striking out three and walking one.
