Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. –Shaw ousted West Virginia Wesleyan with an 18-7 run to close the game and win by a 92-78 margin on Friday afternoon in the first round of the Atlantic Region.
Lydia Bridenbaugh poured in 27 points. Jamie Kaufman finished with a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds). Brittany Maxey and Daria Abros'kina each scored 11 points.
Bridenbaugh's three with 2:07 left in the first half made her the 11th player in WVIAC history and second in Wesleyan history to score 2,000 points.
Kyria Buford led the Lady Bears with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Aslea Williams (22), Brittany Ransom (20) and Sequoyah Griffin (10) all registered double figures for Shaw.
The first half was back-and-forth, with neither team leading by more than five points. Ransom (16) and Buford (14) provided the bulk of the offense in the first half for Shaw. Bridenbaugh kept Wesleyan close with 16 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from three. Wesleyan drained 9-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.
Shaw went on a 9-0 spurt to push their lead to 13 at 72-59 with just over 11 minutes to play. Wesleyan answered with an 11-2 jolt to cut the deficit to 74-70; Bridenbaugh buried a pair of threes during the run. Shaw scored 18 of the game's final 25 points to claim the 92-78 win.
West Virginia Wesleyan finished the season with a 24-7 record. Bridenbaugh, Danae Hill, Ashlie Hennon, Kaufman and Teresa Tokodi all played their final game in the orange and black.
