Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Wesleyan picked up a pair of victories over Glenville State on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats took game one, 7-5 and rolled to a 9-1 five inning win in game two.
In game one, Glenville State broke through in the first with a three-run homer to take a 3-0 lead. Megan Malenstyn got the Bobcats on the board in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single. Wesleyan added a run on a wild pitch and Kelli McCullough's RBI single knotted the game at 3-3. The Bobcats weren't done, using two GSC errors to go in front 5-3 after one inning. Glenville knotted the game at 5-5 in the second with a two-RBI single. Malenstyn broke the tie in the third with an RBI double to right center and Jacqui Omichinski tacked on an RBI single to make the score 7-5 after three innings. GSC loaded the bases in the sixth with one out, but Kaitlyn Carey was able to come in and get a strikeout and groundout to end the Pioneers' threat, as Wesleyan came away with the 7-5 win.
Hillary Perez-Ashley (7-3) worked five plus innings to get the win, giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts. Carey hurled two scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one to earn her first save of the season.
In game two, Alex Furr led off the Wesleyan first with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brittanie Gloyd, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. GSC tied the game at 1-1 in the third on a Wesleyan error. Paige Cummings promptly broke the tie in the bottom half with a two-run blast to center to put Wesleyan in front 3-1. Carey pushed the Bobcat advantage to 6-1 with a three-run shot to left in the fourth. Brittanie Gloyd, Malenstyn and Carey each picked up RBI in the fifth to set the 9-1 margin.
Jacqui Omichinski (7-3) tossed the five inning complete game, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out five.
The Bobcats improve to 23-9 on the year and 8-2 in WVIAC play. Wesleyan travels to Bluefield on Tuesday.
