GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Wesleyan baseball team pushed its' win streak to seven games with a pair of victories over Glenville State on Sunday. The Bobcats claimed a 5-3 win in game one, and rolled by a score of 8-1 in game two.
In game one, Wesleyan opened the scoring in the first with an RBI from Gene Franks to take a 1-0 lead. Wesleyan pushed its advantage to 3-0 with back-to-back sacrifice flies from Matt Edwards and J.R. Tenney in the fourth. The Pioneers cut the deficit to 3-1 with a solo homer in the sixth. Ryan Lewicki drove home a run with a single and Franks added his second RBI to make the score 5-1. Glenville State got a rally started in the seventh with a two-RBI single, but Chris Stein was able to get a strikeout and pop up to seal the 5-3 win.
Andrew Ornes (1-3) earned the win, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Stein picked up his fifth save of the season, working 1.1 innings, yielding two runs on two hits while striking out one.
In game two, Mark Darlington put Wesleyan in front 1-0 in the second with a solo home run. The Bobcats' offense continued to roll in the third with RBI doubles from Lewicki and Darlington. Corey Flickinger pushed the WVWC advantage to 6-0 with a three-run blast in the fourth. Tenney picked up an RBI single in the fifth and Wesleyan pushed the lead to 8-0 with a run on an error. The Pioneers' lone tally came as a result of a Bobcat error in the bottom of the inning, but Wesleyan was able to claim the 8-1 win.
Nick Benges (2-0) went five innings to pick up the win, giving up one run on two hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Cassey Defibaugh surrendered one hit in two innings, while walking one.
The Bobcats move to 16-12 overall and 11-4 in league play. Wesleyan welcomes Bluefield State to Hank Ellis Field for a weekend series, beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
