Box Score 2 PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan continued its pursuit of the regular season conference title with a sweep of Alderson-Broaddus on Friday. The Bobcats took game one, 3-0 and rolled to a 9-1 win in game two.
In game one, Megan Malenstyn gave Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single. Jacqui Omichinski added an RBI single in the third and Paige Cummings drove home a run in the fourth to push the lead to 3-0. That would be all the Bobcats would need to take the 3-0 win.
Hillary Perez-Ashley (13-3) worked the complete game, surrendering just three hits, while striking out nine.
In game two, Paige Cummings' RBI put Wesleyan in front 1-0 in the first inning. Brittanie Gloyd added an RBI in the second on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, and Cummings followed with a perfectly executed squeeze play to push the Bobcats' advantage to 3-0. Carey tacked on two in the third with a home run. Alex Furr and Gloyd kept the inning rolling with back-to-back RBI singles, while Cummings drove in one to make the score 8-0. The Battlers notched a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single. Cummings tallied the games' final run with an RBI single to set the 9-1 margin.
Omichinski (13-4) yielded one run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.
Wesleyan is now 34-10 overall and 19-3 in WVIAC play. The Bobcats close out the regular season at Fairmont State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
