CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Bluefield State registered a 5-3 win over WV Wesleyan in the WVIAC Championship Sunday evening.

In doubles action, the Big Blues jumped out to a 2-1 advantage. Top-seeded Vlad Catlan and Niklas Sparr downed Aitor Reparaz and Joel Izquierdo by a 9-7 count. The second-seeded duo of Shikhar Kapur and Piotr Kruk garnered an 8-3 win over Javier Yim Kim and Eduard Gusevs.

The Bobcats got on the board first, however, by registering a solid 8-2 win. In the match, Douglas Oliveira and Nathan Savil bested Gautam Sreeram and Conner Pickering.

The Bobcats battled back in singles action, but BSC held on to take the title. Sparr started things out with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5. Kapur then totaled a three-set win at No. 1, besting Yim Kim 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 in a thrilling three-set victory.

WVWC's Izquierdo helped the team pick up a point. He totaled a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3. Oliviera tallied a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win at No. 4, but Sreeram ended the match by downing his opponent at the No. 6 spot by a 6-4, 6-0 score. 

Both teams will find out Tuesday who they will play in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
