Box Score 2 FAIRMONT, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan brought home the 2012 WVIAC regular season title with a split against Fairmont State on Sunday. The Bobcats took game one, 1-0 while Fairmont State scored a pair of runs on Wesleyan errors to take game two, 3-2.
In game one, Kelli McCullough drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in the fourth to give the Bobcats a 1-0 win.
Hillary Perez-Ashley (14-3) tossed the complete game shutout, scattering five hits with five strikeouts.
In game two, McCullough gave Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI single. FSU tied the game at 1-1 in the third with an RBI double. Wesleyan retook the lead in the fourth on a wild pitch. The Falcons knotted the game at 2-2 on a Wesleyan error. Fairmont State would score the game's final run on yet another Bobcat error in the seventh to earn the 3-2 win.
Kaitlyn Carey (8-4) took the loss, working 6.1 innings, surrendering three runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out four and walking two. Jacqui Omichinski pitched one-third of an inning before the final run was scored.
The Bobcats finished the regular season with an overall record of 35-11 and 20-4 in league play. Wesleyan travels to Vienna, W.Va. for the WVIAC Tournament on Thursday.
