Seton Hill Edges Wesleyan in Doubleheader Action

GREENSBURG, Pa. – In a showdown between the North and South division leaders, Seton Hill was able to come away with a pair of one-run victories.  The Griffins took game one, 5-4 in nine innings and claimed a 4-3 win in game two.

In game one, Seton Hill jumped to a 2-0 lead in third with an RBI double followed by an RBI single. Cory Flickinger got Wesleyan on the board in the fifth with an RBI double and would later score on a single by Ryan Lewicki to tie the game at 2-2 after five. Tomlinson gave the Bobcats their first lead with an RBI single in the sixth. J.R. Tenney added an RBI single later in the inning to push the Wesleyan lead to 4-2. SHU took advantage of a pair of wild pitches, which led to a two-RBI single that sent the game into extra innings. The Griffins scored the winning run on a bases-loaded single in the ninth to earn the 5-4 win.

Aaron Adams earned a no-decision, working 6.1 innings surrendering four runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Nick Benges (2-2) was saddled with the loss, tossing 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, while walking five and striking out one.

In game two, Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Gene Franks. Flickinger tacked on a run in the second with an RBI double, making the score 2-0. SHU tied the game in the third with a two-RBI single. Spencer Webley put Wesleyan back on top with a solo shot in the fourth. Seton Hill knotted the game at 3-3 with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning. The Griffins tallied the game's final mark with an RBI single in the fifth to snatch the 4-3 win.

Warren Hammel (9-1) took the loss, his first of the season, hurling 5.1 innings allowing four runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk. Chris Stein tossed the final two-thirds of an inning walking one.

The pair of losses drop the Bobcats to 25-15 overall and 20-7 in league play. Wesleyan heads to Davis & Elkins for a weekend series beginning on Saturday.
