ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan split a pair of games of the weekend. The Senators notched a walk-off 4-3 win in game one, while Wesleyan took game two 6-4.
In game one, D&E strung together four hits to go in front 2-0 in the first. The Senators would add to their lead in the second with an RBI double to make the score 3-0. Wesleyan knotted the game at 3-3 in third on a three run bomb by Mark Darlington. Davis & Elkins got a two-out RBI double to take the 4-3 victory.
Andrew Ornes (2-4) took the loss, working 6.1 innings, yielding four runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Nick Benges tossed one-third of an inning allowing one hit.
In game two, Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead on an error in the first. Mitch Tomlinson added an RBI double in the inning and Matt Edwards drove in a run with a single to put the Bobcats in front 3-0 after one inning. The Senators first run came via an RBI double in the third and would plate a run in the fourth on a single to trim the deficit to 3-2. Gene Franks notched a two-RBI double in the fifth and later scored on an RBI single by Tomlinson to extend the Wesleyan advantage to 6-2. D&E got an RBI double in the seventh and a solo home run in the ninth, but Wesleyan was able to hold on for the 6-4 victory.
Aaron Adams (10-3) was the winning pitcher, tossing scoreless two innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Warren Hammel worked two innings, surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out one. Chris Stein hurled 2.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits with one walk. Dan Marcine pitched one-third of an inning recording one strikeout. Benges picked up his third save of the year, going two innings fiving up one run on one hit.
The Bobcats host Fairmont State in their regular season finale on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
