JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Alderson-Broaddus ended West Virginia Wesleyan's season with a 4-3 victory on day three of the WVIAC Tournament.
The Battlers scratched across a run with an RBI single after a stolen base in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Wesleyan tied the game with a run scoring, on a groundout. Spencer Webley put Wesleyan in front with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. A-B rallied in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs on two WVWC errors to retake the lead at 3-2. The Battlers were able to add an insurance run in the ninth with a pair of RBI doubles to extend their advantage to 4-2. Tom Brunswick was able to drive in a run with a groundout to cut the deficit to 4-3, but A-B was able to get a fly-out to end the game.
Andrew Ornes (4-5) took the loss, working 7.1 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts. Nick Benges tossed 1.2 innings, yielding one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Wesleyan wraps up the 2012 campaign with a record of 28-19. The loss marks the end of four spectacular careers in Buckhannon: Mark Darlington, Cory Flickinger, Gene Franks and Warren Hammel.
