Box Score CALIFORNIA, Pa. – West Virginia Wesleyan used clutch pitching to down Lock Haven, 1-0 and advance to the Sweet 16 and a match-up with #3 Kutztown.
Kaitlyn Carey put West Virginia Wesleyan ahead 1-0 with a two-out RBI single in the first inning. Lock Haven stranded eight runners on base, including three at third base as Wesleyan made its first inning run stand to take the 1-0 victory.
Hillary Perez-Ashley (19-3) tossed the complete game, scattering seven hits while striking out 10 and walking one.
Wesleyan will now face Kutztown in a best-of-three series beginning on Friday. The winner of the series advances to the Division II Softball World Series in Louisville, Ky.
