Lady Blues Stifle Wesleyan, 61-47

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Bluefield State used an early 14-0 run to knock off West Virginia Wesleyan, 61-47 on Monday night.

Atavia Blake (15) and Danesha Richardson (11) both scored in double figures for Wesleyan.

The Lady Blues were led by Dragan Tomic who netted 15 points, while Charlene Diggs finished with 12 points. Charity Harris registered a game-high six assists for BSC.

The Lady Bobcats continued to struggle at the charity stripe, making only 6-of-18 attempts, while BSC sank 10-of-11 at the line. The Lady Blues notched a slim 39-35 advantage on the glass.

Bluefield State took control with a 14-0 run to go from trailing 8-6 to ahead 20-8. The run was aided by seven Lady Bobcat turnovers. Wesleyan battled back to within six at 20-14, before a 7-0 jolt by BSC made the score 27-14. Diggs buried a three to ignite the run. The Lady Blues went to the half holding a 30-21 lead.  

The first half was sloppy, with each team turning the ball over 16 times. The Lady Blues held a slight 14-10 advantage in points off turnovers in the first 20 minutes. 

Bluefield State wouldn't let the Lady Bobcats get closer than eight on their way to the 61-47 victory.

The Lady Bobcats will look to get back in the win column on Thursday night when they head to Ohio Valley for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
