Balanced Attack Leads WVWC Past Wheeling, 76-66

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Four starters reached double figures to propel the Lady Bobcats to a 76-66 victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon.

Brittany Maxey registered a game-high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. Danesha Richardson (15) Kerry Conroy (12) and Allie Browne (11) all reached double digits.

Jaila Bryant (16), Emily Robinson (15), Jamie Sobczak (12) and Taneka Lewis (12) all scored in double figures for Wheeling Jesuit.

WVWC held a 37-27 rebounding advantage for the game. Wesleyan made 31-of-56 attempts from the field (55 percent).

Wesleyan opened up a 26-13 lead in the first half. Maxey scored 12 of the 26 points. Wheeling Jesuit answered with a 17-9 jolt to close the half, and make the deficit 35-30.

WJU cut the Wesleyan lead to four at 53-49 with 10 minutes to play. The Lady Bobcats responded with a 16-7 blitz to take control of the game at 69-56. The run included a trio of long range bombs from Browne. The Bobcats would cruise from there to the 76-66 win.    

Wesleyan returns to action on Thursday evening when they travel to Davis & Elkins at 5:30 p.m.
