Davis & Elkins Smothers Wesleyan, 62-49

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins defense limited Wesleyan to a season-low 27 percent (17-of-62) from the field to come away with a 62-49 victory on Thursday evening.

Atavia Blake led all scorers with 23 points on the night. Danesha Richardson finished with a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds).

Ashley Bowles was the lone Senator to reach double figures with 13 points off the bench.

The Davis & Elkins bench outscored Wesleyan's bench 32-4. D&E dominated on the glass, holding a 50-34 advantage. The Senators sank 9-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc, while limiting Wesleyan to just 2-of-16.

D&E exploded to a 14-5 lead to open the contest. The run was ignited by four threes. Wesleyan responded, scoring 13 of the game's next 20 points to trim the deficit to 22-18. Blake scored eight of the 13 points. The Senators pushed the lead back to nine at 34-25 as the teams headed to the half. D&E buried three more triples before the break to rebuild the lead.

The Senators held Wesleyan without a field goal for nearly the entire opening four minutes of the second half, as the margin swelled to 17 at 42-25. The Lady Bobcats battled back to get within 10 at 49-39, but D&E's balanced attack proved to be too much, resulting in the 62-49 Senator win.

WVWC travels to Pitt.-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
