BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan used a 17-0 surge to down Charleston on Saturday afternoon, 79-68.

Atavia Blake led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points off the bench; Kerry Conroy (15), Allie Browne (13), Brittany Maxey (11) and Brittany Williams (11) also finished in double figures for WVWC. Maxey registered a double-double with 14 rebounds to go along with her 11 point effort. Browne dished out a game-high seven assists.

Nichole Perry led all scorers with 30 points for the Golden Eagles. Jessi Cowden added 17 points for UC.

The Lady Bobcats overcame 32 turnovers to claim the victory. WVWC dominated on the glass by a 50-24 margin. Wesleyan hit 28-of-58 attempts (48 percent) from the field, while limiting the Golden Eagles to 24-of-63 (38 percent).

Charleston opened up a 21-11 advantage in the first half—all 21 points came from the combination of Perry and Cowden. Wesleyan countered with a 12-2 jolt to knot the game at 23-23. Maxey sparked the run with a traditional three-point play. Charleston pulled back in front with a 6-0 sprint to make the score 29-23, but Wesleyan answered with a 10-0 surge to take its first lead of the game at 33-29. Perry buried a pair of threes to close the half , sending the teams to the break deadlocked at 35-35.

Wesleyan broke a 39-39 tie with a 17-0 run to take a 56-39 lead. The run was ignited by back-to-back threes from Browne. UC cut the lead to six at 71-65 with an 26-15 run, but the Lady Bobcats scored eight of the games' final 11 points to come away with the 79-68 victory.  

The Lady Bobcats return to action on Monday evening as they travel to West Virginia State. Tip time for is set for 5:30 p.m.
