BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Six UC players reached double figures to propel the Golden Eagles to an 80-60 victory over Wesleyan on Saturday evening.
Kelsey Williams picked up his seventh straight double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. T.J. Thompson added 15 and Noah Cottrill finished with 11 points for the Bobcats.
Xavier Humphrey (17), Evan Faulkner (15), Hayden Annett (12), Aleksander Kesic (11), Robbie Dreher (11) and Terrell Lipkin (10) all scored in double digits for Charleston.
The Golden Eagles held a slight 35-29 advantage on the glass. UC turned 15 Bobcat turnovers into 21 points in the game.
Charleston broke a 10-10 tie early in the first half with a 13-0 run to take a 23-10 lead. Wesleyan responded with 13-2 jolt later in the half that made the score 34-30. Cottrill and Thompson each sank threes during the run. Humphrey nailed a deep three at the buzzer to give the Golden Eagles a 39-32 advantage at the break.
The Golden Eagles hit shots from beyond the arc on three of their first four possessions of the second half, pushing the lead to 50-37. Wesleyan battled back to get within eight points at 57-49, but UC scored 23 of the game's final 34 points to take the 80-60 win.
WVWC will look to get back in the win column on Monday night as they travel to West Virginia State for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
