Bobcats Top Jackets, 70-59

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan hit seven threes en route to a 70-59 win over West Virginia State on Monday night.

Kelsey Williams' double-double streak was snapped at seven, but the senior center still finished with 23 points and six rebounds. Noah Cottrill (13) and Chris Dewberry (11) also finished in double figures for the Bobcats. T.J. Thompson ripped down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Jalen Walker (14), Raymon Austin (12), David Ford (11) and Anton Hutchins (10) all scored in double figures for West Virginia State.

WVWC limited WVSU to just 36 percent (24-of-67) from the field, including 2-of-17 shooting from beyond the arc. The Wesleyan bench outscored the Yellow Jacket bench 20-12.

West Virginia State snatched an early 13-12 lead, before Wesleyan powered ahead with a 10-2 jolt to go in front 22-15. Soren Dossing nailed a pair of threes to ignite the run. WVSU closed the gap to 22-20; but the Bobcats ended the half by scoring 12 of the final 17 points prior to the buzzer, taking a 34-25 lead into the locker room.

The Bobcats extended their advantage to as many as 17 in the second half on the way to the 70-59 victory.

Wesleyan welcomes Pitt.-Johnstown on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
