Box Score Buckhannon, W.Va. -- Women's Soccer remain undefeated at home with a 2-0 win over the Concord Mountain Lions on Saturday afternoon.
Concord created the first chance of the game in the 2nd minute, when a cross wide on the left found Kari Simon who volleyed over from 10 yards out.
Wesleyan thought they had scored in the 6th minute, after a deep free kick into the box from Megan McCoy was knocked into the goal by Rachel Ritchey but she was deemed offside.
The first half was closely contested and the Bobcat's demonstrated a good spell of pressure in the last ten minutes but Concord withheld, with the game being tied 0-0 at the half.
In the 48th minute, Wesleyan's Rachel Ransom had a great winding run at the Mountain Lions defense and laid off the ball for Jade Smith on the edge of the box, who struck the ball into the bottom right corner giving the Bobcat's the 1-0 lead.
Just 2 minutes later, Ransom had another powerful run towards Concord's box, but was unable to keep her shot down.
With 58 minutes played, Hannah Gurtis won possession of the ball in Concord's half and played a neat through ball to Ransom at the top of the box, who looked to score, but was denied by a spectacular diving save from the Mountain Lions Kristin Twomey.
Wesleyan continued to search for that elusive second goal, and in the 72nd minute a free kick from Ritchey looked to strike the Mountain Lions defender's hand inside the box, but the penalty claims were dismissed.
The Bobcat's sealed the win through Lexi Battocchi in the 87th minute. Battocchi found herself in the box with her first shot being deflected up into the air and she reacted the quickest heading the ball over Twomey making it 2-0.
The Lady Bobcat's registered 13 shots and 7 corner kicks, while the Mountain Lions tallied 4 shots and only 1 corner.
This win means Women's Soccer are now 6-2-1 in the Conference and 7-4-1 overall. They are back in action Wednesday October 16 where they host Notre Dame at 4:00pm.
