Women's Soccer Upset #1

Box Score

Buckhannon, W.Va. -- Women's Soccer upset the Conference number one and undefeated Notre Dame Falcons 1-0 Wednesday evening.

The Lady Bobcat's applied pressure early on with Colette Biondi having Wesleyan's first chance, but she was denied by the Falcon's goalkeeper Kristy Kolschetzky.

It was the 24th minute when fortune would strike the Bobcat's as Rachel Ransom made most of a deflected cross and fired in the only goal of the game. Her shot from the edge of the box took a slight deflection of a Notre Dame defender and found the back of the net.

The second half proved to be more even as both teams saw opportunities. Wesleyan faced a real scare when a fortunate header skipped deep into the Bobcat's half, where the Falcon's forward Natalie Ockunnzi had a level chance. Goalkeeper Lauren Duncan made the save of the game to preserve the lead.

Wesleyan's defense only allowed a total of 3 shots on goal while they tested Kolschetzky 5 times. The Bobcat's outshot the Falcons 11-8 and had 4 corners to their 2.

This victory means Women's Soccer are now 7-2-1 in the Conference and 8-4-1 overall. They travel to Urbana Saturday October 19 for a 1:00pm kick-off.
