Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The Wesleyan Volleyball team took three straight sets from WV State, Tuesday evening at Rockefeller Center claiming the match 3-0. The victory secures a first round bye in the MEC tournament next week held in Charleston.
The Bobcats game out of the gate claiming an early lead in the first set 10-3 before shutting out the Yellow Jackets 25-16. The front line presence of Erin Bond, Camblin Leonard, and Samantha Swann seemed to be an intimidating factor all night for the Bobcats. Wesleyan forced State in to a -.056 hitting percentage, tallying more errors than kills.
The second set would prove the best for the Yellow Jackets knotting up the 'Cats at 10-10 before Wesleyan went on their biggest run of the night jumping to a 20-11 advantage before closing out State 25-18. Wesleyan, again, started well in the third set with a strong opening run 11-5, then finishing strong to a 25-16 victory.
Aspen Weber would lead the team in three categories with eight Kills, two Aces, and seven Digs on the evening. Bond would add 4 solo blocks to her seven attacks while senior Casey Pattyn would add 18 assists to her increasing notable tally of 2,500 that she obtained in last week's 3-0 victory at Shepherd.
Wesleyan's back in action this Friday as they play host to UVa-Wise at 7pm, then again Saturday at 1pm vs. Concord, both, in Rockefeller Center.
