Box Score Story by Mountain East Conference
FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan claimed the 2013 Mountain East Conference Tournament championship by defeating Notre Dame College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Neither team could gather much possession in the first half, but the opportunistic Bobcats took advantage of a scoring opportunity in the 15th minute. Cris Eddy weaved through the Notre Dame defense and found Colette Biondi on the inside of the box who slotted home the pass from 10 yards out for the score.
The teams traded good chances in the second half, but Notre Dame was unable to find the equalizer. Natalie Ockunzzi had the best Falcon chance early in the second half chance with a settle, turn and shot from just outside the 18 that just went high.
Lauren Duncan recorded three saves and preserved the shutout in goal for the the Bobcats.
The Bobcat's finish up their 2013 campaign with a 13-4-2 overall record.
WVWC's Biondi, Kristi Dalton, Rachel Ritchey and Amanda Forest were all named to the All-MEC Tournament team. Notre Dame College's Karla DiJohn, Emily Balodis and Megan O'Connor were also named to the all-tournament squad.
