Box Score PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Wesleyan women put a halt to their five-game skid with a 49-47 win over Alderson-Broaddus on Monday night.
Allie Browne led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points, including a trio of three point buckets. Atavia Blake netted 10 points, while Brittany Maxey finished with a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds).
Leah Hurst paced the Battlers with a game-high 20 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Amanda Peoples added 10 points for A-B.
Alderson-Broaddus held a slim 36-31 advantage on the glass, grabbing 18 offensive boards and turning them into 19 second chance points. The Battlers kept the game close by making 13-of-15 free throws, while Welsyan made just three trips to the charity stripe.
The first half was a battle, with neither team leading by more than four points. Wesleyan held a slight 25-23 advantage at the break.
The Bobcats opened the second half with a 12-2 blitz to expand the lead to 37-25. A-B recovered to score 22 of the game's final 34 points, but the game tying bucket at the buzzer wouldn't fall, sending Wesleyan took the 49-47 victory.
Wesleyan heads to Shepherd on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip.
