CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Fairmont State held Wesleyan without a field goal for eight minutes in the second half to secure a spot in the semifinals with a 65-54 victory on Wednesday night.

Brittany Williams scored a season-high 15 points for WVWC.

Briana Welch scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field. Kaitlin Snyder (15), Hailey Garrett (11), Hallie Gunnoe (10) and Tiffany Nicholson (10) all reached double figures. Gunnoe ripped down a game-high 13 rebounds to complete her double-double. Snyder handed out a game-high six assists.

Fairmont State held a 41-34 advantage on the glass. FSU shot 49 percent from the field, while limiting Wesleyan to just 32 percent.    

Wesleyan started the game with a 12-4 advantage behind six points from Danesha Richardson. The lead was short lived, as the Lady Falcons responded with an 11-0 blitz to go on top 15-12. FSU closed the half on a 13-4 run to take a 35-22 lead into the locker room. Snyder buried back-to-back threes to spark the run.

The Lady Bobcats opened the second half scoring nine of the first 13 points to trim the deficit to single digits at 39-31. Kerry Conroy spurred the run with a three-point basket. FSU held Wesleyan without a field goal for the next eight minutes—outscoring the Lady Bobcats 22-3 to seize control of the game with the score 61-34. WVWC scored 20 of the game's final 24 points, but only after the game was well in hand, as FSU took the 65-54 win.    

The loss is the final chapter in the careers of Valarie Jasper, Brittany Maxey and Conroy. The Lady Bobcats finish the season 9-18.
