BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Shepherd made 14-of-16 free throws and held off a furious Wesleyan rally to come away with a 74-68 win on Monday night.

Brittany Maxey (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Atavia Blake (20 points, 10 rebounds) each notched double-doubles for Wesleyan. Danesha Richardson finished with 15 points.

SU was led by Emily Daniel and Priscilla Moseh, who each tallied 16 points. Rachel Johnson and Jimyse Brown each tallied 10 points for the Rams. Alex Tamez dished out a game-high six assists.

The Lady Bobcats struggled from three, making just 1-of-15 attempts. Shepherd outrebounded WVWC by a 41- 35 margin.  The Rams' bench outscored Wesleyan's bench 24-7 in the game.

Shepherd jumped to an early 11-5 advantage behind threes from Alex Tamez and Weakland. Wesleyan responded with a 13-6 surge to take a brief 18-17 lead. Blake made seven free throws during the run. Shepherd scored 20 of the final 30 points of the half to take a 37-28 lead to the locker room.  Each team committed 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, however the Rams converted 13 points off of  turnovers while Wesleyan netted only  eight. The Lady Bobcats hung around by making 10-of-14 free throws; Shepherd went to the charity stripe just five times, sinking all five attempts. Blake kept Wesleyan within striking distance with 11 points in the half.

Shepherd used a early 10-0 run in the second half to expand their advantage to 17 at 54-37. Wesleyan scored 19 of the contest's next 27 points to trim the deficit to 62-56. Courtney Small drilled a three from the right wing to ignite the run. The Lady Bobcats cut the lead to one possession at 70-68 with a 8-0 run late in the half, but Moseh closed the game out for the Rams, scoring the final four points to secure the 74-68 victory.

Wesleyan heads to Bluefield State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
