BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Caleb Ashley poured in a career-best 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field to help the Bobcats end a seven-game skid with a 75-60 win over Bluefield State on Saturday.
Ashley buried 6-of-7 attempts from three, while Kelsey Williams posted a double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds). Soren Dossing added 12 points for the Bobcats.
Remar Brothers (15) and Treon Claiborne (12) finished in double figures for the Blues.
BSC held a slight 44-38 advantage on the glass for the game. The Bobcats dished out 19 assists, while the Blues managed just eight. WVWC hit on 11-of-17 (64 percent) of its shots from beyond the arc.
Wesleyan wasted no time jumping out to a 26-8 lead in the opening eight minutes. Ashley nailed four threes during the quick start. The Bobcats' offense onslaught continued with a 16-3 jolt later in the half, giving WVWC their largest lead of the game at 50-22. Tanner McGrew scored six of the 16 points. Wesleyan went to the locker room holding a 50-33 advantage.
Bluefield State closed the gap to 10 at 63-53 with a 15-0 surge late in the second half, but the deficit was too much as Wesleyan came away with the 75-60 victory.
The Bobcats will look to make it two in a row on Monday evening as they welcome Glenville State at 7:30 p.m.
