Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wesleyan softball team kicked off its spring break trip with a 10-2 win over Cedarville, before falling to Wilmington 6-5.
West Virginia Wesleyan 10, Cedarville 2
Cedarville jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning with a two RBI single. Carleigh Hall scored on an error to trim the lead to 2-1. Hall drove in a pair of runs in the second to put Wesleyan in front and scored on an Alex Furr single to make the score 4-2. Rebekah Honce drove in a run in the third to make the score 5-2. Wesleyan scored three runs in the fifth on an error, making the score 8-2. Honce and Tyler Welch drove in runs in the sixth to set the final margin at 10-2.
Jessica Griffin (1-0) tossed the full six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
Wilmington 6, West Virginia Wesleyan 5
Wilmington scored a run on an error in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Paige Cummings tied the game with an RBI single in the third. Wilmington tacked on two runs in the bottom of the inning to go back on top 3-1. Amanda Davis drove in a run in the fourth and the Bobcats tied the game in the fifth on an error. Wilmington scored three in the fifth to make the score 6-3. Davis and Honce each drove in a run, but it wasn't enough, and Wilmington held on for the 6-5 win.
Kaitlyn Carey (2-1) worked six innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks./
