BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team captured a hard fought 6-3 win over visiting Davis and Elkins today at the Ross Tennis Complex.
Lead by sophomores Joey Izquierdo and Aitor Reparaz, the Bobcats ground out the decisive matches in three sets to capture the victory and move their record to 3-2 on the spring.
"Davis & Elkins played with a lot of desire today and really brought their best game", said head coach Marc Walters. "They've had some individual success against us in tournaments, and I believe that helped them gain some confidence going into this match."
Walters again had praise for Reparaz and Izquierdo, who posted key victories in the match.
"Those two have grown a lot in a short time as a doubles team this year, and it is not lost on the other coaches that are watching them improve each match. They provided a big boost for us today when we needed it the most," said Walters.
Nathan Savil and Jack Waldon also won matches for the Bobcats, who now travel to Institute on Wednesday to play West Virginia State in their WVIAC opener. Match time is 12 p.m., weather permitting.
