BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Wesleyan baseball team picked up a pair of conference victories over Glenville State on Saturday afternoon at Hank Ellis Field.
Ryan Lewicki opened the scoring in game one with a RBI double and scored on a single by Aaron Wiegel to put Wesleyan in front 2-0 after one inning. GSC tied the game at 2-2 after a RBI single and sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Wesleyan scored a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning and Matt Edwards plated a run with a sacrifice fly to put WVWC back in front 4-2. The Pioneers scored three runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The Bobcats responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to go back on top 6-5. GSC tied the game at 6-6 on a passed ball in the sixth. Nick Jones drove home the game-winning run in the seventh with a single.
Aaron Adams lasted 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. Nick Benges worked one inning, giving up one unearned run on one hit while walking one. Cassey Defibaugh earned the win, tossing 1.1 perfect innings, striking out three.
In game two, Jones put Wesleyan in front 1-0 with a RBI single in the third. Wiegel launched a blast to left in the fourth to make the score 2-0. Tom Brunswick unloaded the bases in the sixth with a double, making the advantage 5-0. The Pioneers got a two-run big fly in the seventh, but Wesleyan held on for the 5-2 win.
Zach Oliver allowed just one hit in five innings, while striking out three and walking three. Defibaugh earned the save working two innings, yielding two runs on three hits with a strikeout.
