Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. –Alex Furr collected six hits, drove in two and scored two runs as Wesleyan swept conference foe Shepherd on Saturday.
Shepherd scored three runs in the game's opening frame to take a 3-0 lead. Furr crossed the plate in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kaitlyn Carey to cut the deficit to 3-1. Emily Bennett chased home a run with a single in the third, making the score 3-2. Furr knotted the game at 3-3 with two-out RBI single in the sixth, and also plated the game winning run with a single up the middle in the eighth to secure the 4-3 win.
Jessica Griffin got the start, but lasted only one inning—yielding three runs (two earned) on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Carey earned the win, tossing seven scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out six and walking one.
In game two, Furr scored Wesleyan's first run on a double by Paige Cummings in the first inning. Rachel Ramsey drove in the Bobcats' second run with a groundout in the fourth. Rebekah Honce kept the offense rolling in the fifth when she belted a home run down the left field line, making the score 3-0. The final WVWC run came on a wild pitch to set the 4-0 margin.
Jacqui Omichinski made her first start of the season, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out four and walking two. Carey tossed a perfect 1.1 innings to close out the win.
Wesleyan travels to Slippery Rock on Monday.
