Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wesleyan softball team dropped a 3-1 decision against Young Harris before downing Lynn 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Young Harris 3, West Virginia Wesleyan 1
YHC manufactured three runs with a pair of groundouts and a RBI single to take a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. A pair of errors led to a Wesleyan run in the second to trim the deficit to 3-1. Wesleyan loaded the bases in the fifth, but couldn't convert as Young Harris took the 3-1 win.
Kaitlyn Carey was saddled with the loss, working six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
West Virginia Wesleyan 9, Lynn 3
Alex Furr and Paige Cummings belted back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning to put Wesleyan on top 2-0. Carleigh Hall and Furr each drove in a run in the second with singles, making the score 4-0. Breanna Taylor drove home one in the third with a double. Cummings and Megan Malenstyn each drove in runs with singles in the fourth, while Carey roped a RBI double to make the score 8-0 after four. Lynn stayed in the game with a pair of RBI singles in the fifth. Emily Bennett earned a bases-loaded free pass in the sixth to plate Wesleyan's final tally and Lynn added one in the seventh on a RBI single to cap the scoring.
Jessica Griffin (3-0) hurled the complete game, giving up three runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
