Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan softball coach Steve Warner became the 18th NCAA Division II coach to reach the 800 win mark with a 9-0 win over Bluefield State. Warner concluded the day with 801 wins after a 10-2 victory in game two.
In game one, Paige Cummings drove in the first run of the day with a RBI single in the first. A BSC error allowed the Bobcats' second run to score. A fielder's choice by Alex Furr made the score 3-0 after two. Kaitlyn Carey drove home two in the fourth, while Cummings, Megan Malenstyn, Rebekah Honce and Rachel Ramsey each drove in one to set the 9-0 margin.
Carey earned the win, tossing a complete game one-hit shutout that included three strikeouts.
In game two, Carey drove in the first run, and a passed ball scored a second to put Wesleyan on top 2-0 after one inning. Malenstyn plated a run with a triple in the third and later scored on a double by Emily Bennett. The Blues notched a RBI single in the fourth get within three at 4-1. Cummings drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Malenstyn. A passed ball in the fifth led to Bluefield's second run before Cummings connected on a three-run bomb to set the mercy rule into effect at 10-2.
Jessica Griffin picked up the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out nine.
Wesleyan plays host to Seton Hill on Thursday at 3 p.m.
