PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Wesleyan baseball team earned a 6-4 victory in a non-conference match-up with Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday evening.
J.R. Tenney crossed the plate on an A-B error in the first to put Wesleyan in front, 1-0. Nick Jones and Matt Edwards registered back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth to push the lead to 3-0. Another Battler error, followed by a RBI single by Aaron Wiegel, made the score 5-0. Alderson-Broaddus climbed back into the game with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to cut the lead to 5-3. Jones gave Wesleyan insurance with a RBI single in the eighth. A-B tallied one more run, but Wesleyan held on for the 6-4 win.
Nick Benges was credited with the win, tossing three shutout innings, giving up three hits and walking two. Cassey Defibaugh allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning of work. Dan Marcine surrendered three runs on four hits and struck out one in two innings on the mound. Andrew Ornes hurled one inning, allowing one run on two hits and walking a pair. Chris Stein earned the save after striking out three in two scoreless innings.
The Bobcats host Ohio Valley in a weekend series beginning on Saturday.
