Jackets Take Two From Wesleyan

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Wesleyan softball team found itself on the wrong end of a pair of pitcher's duels on Saturday at West Virginia State. The Bobcats fell in game one by a score of 3-0 and were edged in game two by a 2-1 decision.

In game one, WVSU broke through in the fifth with a RBI single and added another RBI single in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. A Wesleyan error allowed a third run to score as the Yellow Jackets took the 3-0 win.

Kaitlyn Carey yielded three runs on eight hits, while striking out six.

In game two, West Virginia State scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Paige Cummings successfully executed a squeeze play in the sixth to pull Wesleyan within one at 2-1, but the Bobcats could get no closer.

Jacqui Ominchinski took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Jessica Griffin tossed two perfect innings, striking out one.

The Bobcats will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Charleston.
