BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Wesleyan ended a six-game slide in conference contests with a win over Ohio Valley on Saturday. The Bobcats dropped game one by a score of 8-2, but recovered to pick up a 12-4 win in game two.

The Scots fired the first shot early in game one with a two-RBI double in the first. A wild pitch made the score 3-0 before Wesleyan got their first trip to the plate.  Ryan Lewicki drove in a run in the bottom half to make the score 3-1. Matt Edwards added a sacrifice fly in the third to pull WVWC within one at 3-2. OVU plated a run in both the fourth and fifth before breaking the game open with a three-run seventh inning to take the 8-2 victory.

Cassey Defibaugh took the loss, working four innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Nick Benges gave up one run on two hits in one-third of an inning on the mound. Chris Stein hurled 2.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out three.

In game two, Edwards put Wesleyan on top 1-0 with a RBI single in the first. OVU tied the game at 1-1 in the third with a RBI single. Lewicki broke the tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to put WVWC back in front 2-1. Mitch Tomlinson managed a RBI single in the fourth to provide the Bobcats with a cushion. Lewicki and Corey Davis roped back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth and John Koon added a RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1. The Scots plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to get within three at 6-3. Wesleyan strung together six hits in the sixth to score six runs and take a commanding 12-3 advantage. OVU tallied one run in the seventh to set the 12-4 score.    

Andrew Ornes picked up the win, tossing 5.2 innings giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Stein allowed a run on three hits with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

The rubber match of the series is 1 p.m. on Sunday.
