BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Wesleyan claimed a series victory over Ohio Valley with a 14-4 win on Sunday.
Wesleyan opened up a 3-0 advantage with a two-RBI single by Tom Brunswick and a RBI single by J.R. Tenney. The Scots got a RBI double in the third to trim the lead to 3-1. John Koon and Tom Brunswick each tallied RBI singles in the bottom of the inning to push the score to 5-1. OVU scored three runs in the fifth to get within one at 5-4. Brunswick, Koon, Ryan Lewicki and Nick Jones all recorded run-scoring singles in the bottom of the inning, while Spencer Webley drove in a pair of runs as Wesleyan seized control with an 11-4 lead. Aaron Wiegel and Collin Gotham each drove in the seventh; Wiegel was hit by a pitch with the basesloaded in the eighth to set the 14-4 margin.
Aaron Adams earned a no-decision after tossing 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Zach Oliver earned the win, hurling 3.1 scoreless innings, yielding one hit with four strikeouts and one walk. James Gainer worked one inning, striking out two and walking one, while giving up one hit.
Wesleyan welcomes league-leader Seton Hill on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
