BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Wesleyan and Seton Hill split a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Hank Ellis Field. The Bobcats rallied for a 6-5 win in game one, while the Griffins belted five home runs in a 12-3 victory in game two.
In game one, SHU's Michael Cima launched a two-out grand slam in the first to put Seton Hill in front 4-0. The Griffins extended the lead to 5-0 with a RBI groundout in the second. Wesleyan took advantage of a two-out error in the sixth, as John Koon drove in a pair with a single to trim the deficit to 5-2. A second Griffin error in the inning led to two more runs crossing the plate, and J.R. Tenney tied the game at 5-5 with a RBI single. The Bobcats loaded the bases in the seventh and Nick Jones drove a ball through the infield to give Wesleyan the 6-5 win.
Casey Defibaugh got the start, but didn't factor in the decision after working four innings giving up five runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Dan Marcine allowed two hits in two innings on the hill. Chris Stein earned the win, hurling one inning allowing one hit, while walking two and striking out one.
In game two, Seton Hill scored three runs in the first to go on top 3-0. Spencer Webley connected on a solo blast in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-1. SHU posted three more runs in the third to extend the lead to 6-1. Koon again pulled the Bobcats within striking distance with a two-run double in the fourth, making the score 6-3. Seton Hill drilled four home runs over the next two innings to claim the 12-3 win.
Aaron Adams took the loss, tossing two innings, yielding three runs (two earned) on four hits, while striking out three and walking one. Zach Oliver hurled two innings, giving up three runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Andrew Ornes surrendered five runs on seven hits in two innings of work. Nick Benges worked one inning, giving up one run on three hits.
The Bobcats travel to Concord on Saturday to begin a weekend series.
